Green Volunteering

One way to Do Your Part this year is to volunteer. If you’re looking for some green ideas, we’ve got some good ones for you!

We begin at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. There are two locations in Charlotte which are stocked full of furniture, appliances, fixtures, and building materials. It’s a place that keeps goods out of the trash and puts them back to use. They need handy men and women who can help repair furniture. They also co uld use people who can strip broken appliances for salvageable parts to sell, in order to keep the most possible parts out of landfills.

Another idea is take part Adopt-A-Stream program. This is ideal for a group project and requires volunteers to pick up trash along the waterways and to collect data about the water quality. The program asks its volunteers to tackle two stream clean-ups each year.

Then there's the Keep Charlotte Beautiful's program to Adopt-A-Street. It's similiar to the Adopt-A-Stream program.

If you're looking for something a bit wilder...The Carolina Raptor Center needs people to help care for injured animals, support their recycling program and maintain their walking trails and gardens.

Or, you can take part in recurring projects at the RibbonWalk nature preserve. They need people to help maintain the trails and to clean up creeks and streams. It usually takes place the second Saturday of every month from 10am-12pm.

We’ve made links to all the information in the text version of the story in order for you to Do Your Part this season.
