Don't Trash it! Freecycle It!

It only takes a few minutes to sign up and get approved. Then, it's pretty easy to get started. The site is broken down into groups according to where you live. For instance, I live in Charlotte and there are 12,000 Charlotte members. You can search for everything from baby clothes to national geographic magazines.

There are a few guidelines to remember:

Everything that is posted must be free. If you post an item, you decide who gets it from the responses you receive. You can posted a "wanted" ad but there may be restrictions on how many times depending on what particular group you belong to. You also can't re-sell a free item.

Craig's list also has a similar service. Under the "sale" tab, you can find a "free section."

One word of warning, when I first signed up to Freecycle, I was SWAMPED with unwanted emails. Just being a member of Freecycle can mean you could receive up to a hundred emails a day. But, there is a way to avoid all of that. You can now choose to get one all-inclusive email each day or to only receive special notices which means a few emails a month.

So, Do Your Part to keep perfectly good items out of landfills and into the hands of someone who can use it! It's the ultimate definition of recycling!
